AVOCITRUS
the ultimate solution for effective treatments
in citrus and avocado plantations.

The Challenge

Maximizing crop protection treatments for citrus and avocado

In recent years, citrus and avocado plantations have experienced significant global growth, with particularly strong expansion in South Africa and Latin America.
Countries such as Mexico, Peru, and Brazil have become leaders in the production and export of these fruits, supplying key markets worldwide. For instance, in 2018 the avocado cultivation area recorded in the state of Michoacán (Mexico) already exceeded 158,000 hectares.
However, the expansion of these huge citrus and avocado plantations has brought new challenges for growers, who now require advanced solutions for crop protection. The main difficulties experienced include:

  • Expanding cultivation areas:
growers now manage increasingly large orchards, requiring large-scale treatments which are both deliver speed and efficiency.

  • Challenging orchard structures:
citrus and avocado trees are tall and widely spaced (6 to 10 meters between rows), which makes it difficult to achieve even product coverage. In older plantations, spacing can reach 12 meters, with tree heights up to—and sometimes beyond—14 meters.

  • Difficult-to-reach canopies:
as much as 75% of the canopy mass is concentrated in the upper third-part of the tree, making it hard to ensure effective coverage where it matters most.

  • Unique vegetation density:
orange trees, for instance, develop leaves in an “umbrella” shape. When exposed to airflow, the leaves open up and shield the fruit—adding to the challenge of achieving uniform treatments.

  • Sustainability demands:
today’s growers must reduce water use, cut down on pesticide and fuel consumption, and adopt more sustainable practices—all while keeping operating costs under control.

That's why it became essential to create a solution that delivers efficient, uniform treatments—maximizing resource efficiency while boosting crop performance.

Avocitrus: Cima's answer for citrus and avocado growers

To tackle these challenges, we created a professional solution for citrus and avocado orchards—designed to deliver efficient, uniform crop protection.
Here's what we set out to achieve:

  • Complete canopy coverage:
even the tallest trees and innermost branches are reached effectively, thanks to optimized distribution technology.

  • Smarter resource use:
precise application means less water, fewer chemicals, and lower fuel consumption—boosting efficiency and sustainability.

  • Higher yields, better quality:
consistent, reliable protection ensures healthier crops, greater productivity, and superior fruit quality.

To make this possible, we developed a unique configuration that combines a high-performance sprayer with an advanced sprayhead—giving you the winning edge in citrus and avocado plantations.

The Blitz 55 Pneumatic Low-Volume Trailed Sprayer
combined with the T.4OL distribution sprayhead

To tackle these challenges, Cima has created a high-performance configuration by combining:

  • Blitz 55 Sprayer
Generates the airflow needed to penetrate dense foliage and reach even the innermost parts of the trees

    Technical Data Sheet: Blitz 55
  • Avocitrus Distribution Sprayhead
Paired with the Blitz 55 sprayer, the Avocitrus distribution head ensures versatility and adaptability, allowing operation across all citrus and avocado plantations. Its multiple usage modes maximize canopy coverage.

    Technical Data Sheet: T.4OL sprayhead

How to use the sprayhead

Crossed
for treatments where the inter-row widths are less than 5 metres

Open
where the row spacing exceeds 5 metres

Oriented on one side only
to concentrate treatment on specific areas of the canopy

Possibility of adding up to 3 extensions
to increase the height of the 4-diffuser units and ensure uniform coverage of taller foliage.

Perù

Field Trials

Recently, our importer for Peru conducted tests on historic avocado plantations, featuring 12-meter-high trees with 10-meter row spacing.

During the trials, the Blitz 55 Super sprayer equipped with the T.4OL distribution sprayhead demonstrated exceptional adaptability and adjustability according to the tree structure, delivering targeted and precise treatments.

Applied liquid volumes ranged from 800 to 1,500 L/ha depending on the tree layout, demonstrating to farmers that the sprayer can be customized for different volumes, with differentiated coverage between the upper and lower canopy to maximize treatment efficiency.

Farmers saw firsthand the sprayer’s versatility, confirming that it allows both volume and spray direction to be tailored to the crop’s characteristics, guaranteeing uniform coverage even in the most challenging conditions.
